The Scott Daniel Fund
In life, Scott Daniel generously supported many causes and touched many lives, especially in the gay community. He was an avid supporter of Halloween New Orleans, Black Tie Houston, AIDS Coalition of Coastal Texas, a Federal member of HRC, and sat on the Board of Galveston Island's East-End Theater Company to name a few. In his memory, the Scott Daniel Fund has been created as a part of SoberHood, a 501(c)(3), and will continue his legacy by supporting safe, sober housing and services for the gay community.
Due to social norms, condemnation, violence and oppression, the gay community has higher rates of addiction as well as depression and suicide. While there is no quick fix, addicts can learn to live happier, healthier lives in recovery, and sober housing is an important and supportive step for many transitioning out of addiction treatment programs.
The first Scott Daniel Sober Home was opened in Austin, Texas in 2010. It is the only Gay Men's Sober Home in Texas and one of only three in the United States. With the help of The Scott Daniel Fund, SoberHood will strengthen the Scott Daniel community of support and expand his legacy across the State.
The Scott Daniel Fund is overseen by Bryan Walker.
