Men and Addiction

Statistically, men are more likely to be diagnosed with and seek treatment for addiction than women. Why? More than a genetic difference, men and women play different roles and have different expectations in our society. Men are more likely to be exposed to addictive substances and environments, and women are less likely to have access to care or the ability to enter treatment. In addition, the biological differences between men and women play a role in addiction, relapse, and recovery rates.
