Glutamate and Addiction

Glutamate is an amino acid that acts as a neurotransmitter, a biochemical used to send and receive messages within our nervous system. Glutamate impacts one's cognitive abilities. Long term drug abuses effects on glutamate and glutamate receptors can result in poor judgement and decision making, diminished memory and learning abilities, and a loss of control over behavior and impulses.
