History
In 2008, Alex Sanchez introduced Jason Howell to the concept of Sober Housings as an important recovery support service that was very much in short supply. As a former pharmaceutical representative specializing in mental health, Jason quickly reconnect with Clinical Pharmacist, Steven Stanislav, and Psychiatrist and Medical Director, Robert Cantu, to discuss the project. Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, Robert Bolhs, was brought into founding group, and by August 2008, the doors to a pilot house were opened. Once the founders established a successful housing model, Alex Sanchez incorporate SoberHood as a Texas Nonprofit in 2009 and Steven Stanislav applied for SoberHood's IRS nonprofit status. On January 10, 2010 SoberHood become a 501(c)(3).
In 2010, SoberHood created the The Scott Daniel Fund to support Gays in Recovery and nurtured the Scott Daniel Home, the only Gay Sober Home in Texas, to a level of self sustainability.
In 2011, SoberHood transitioned from being a housing provider to being a housing support organization launching the Texas Recovery Oriented Housing Network. From this vantage point, SoberHood can better address system wide needs and make a larger impact across more lives.
