Dopamine and Addiction
Dopamine is a neurotransmitter, a biochemical used to send and receive messages within our nervous system. Its most commonly found in regions of the brain that control emotions, feelings of pleasure, motivation, and movement. When drugs causes a surge of dopamine in the brain, the user can experiences intense states of euphoria. If the person continues to use the drug, their brain will downwardly adjust producing less dopamine or reducing the number of dopamine receptors. As a result, more and more of the drug is need to achieve the same level of 'high'.
