Depressants are drugs that slow down the brain creating a calming effect. Prolonged usage can lead to addiction. The withdrawal side effects from depressants can be life threatening. Depressants can also have dangerous drug-drug interactions when used together, with over the counter and prescription medication, or with other types of illegal drugs. Examples of depressants: alcohol, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, and GHB.
